Piano pedagogy texts
I was googling around for piano pedagogy texts, and discovered this web site that claims a degree in Piano Pedagogy is on the top ten list of useless college degrees. (They don’t give good reason for this decision, however.)
I am sure many here will beg to differ …. It’s fun to see what company the piano pedagogy degree enjoys with other “useless” degrees.

Yes, I’d have to say that reading this article tells me far more about its
author than its contents. In fact, I’d personally have a hard time finding
a single degree offered in the world that is truly “useless” because of the
varying purposes people have for getting degrees. This author doesn’t even
bother to define useless. The thing is, universities don’t continue degree
programs unless the local society expresses a demand for it, and by
definition of demand, that makes these degree programs useful. If one only
obtains a degree for no other purpose than sheer intellectual curiosity,
then that was a useful degree to achieve. It was worth it.
I’m sure there are people representing each field listed who would defend
their field just as I would defend pedagogy. I’ve heard some say that one
only needs to play well to teach well, but this is so far from the truth,
it’s pitiful. Lists like this are only the result of 100% pure ignorance,
and I don’t mean a simple lack of information, I mean ignorance OF one’s
ignorance: not knowing that one is missing information required to be able
to form a valid opinion, but forming not only an opinion, but a strong
opinion.
