We received the keyboard very quickly and in perfect condition – which was a concern because we are an FPO address overseas. It sounds great and the keys are semi-weighted. I doubt we will ever need to upgrade this keyboard – since it has so many features and we are recreational players. Great choice if you want something more than a standard keyboard and less than a digital piano.

I found this was a good purchase over all. It is a great keyboard for the price. However, in my opinion, it lacks professionalism in two areas:
1) The keys are extremely light. Perhaps that is because I’m used to an antique upright, but the keys would flap faster than a diving board. This throws the sustain off a bit.
2) The foot pedal is lousy. It is a small rectangular box a little larger than a standard deck of cards. It is hard to press down in just the right spot, and makes the slurs sound shallow.
If I had the choice again, I would still purchase this product. I did end up purchasing a standard piano foot pedal ($25) though, and it sounds much better.

First, let me say that this is a solid product for a very good price. It’s highly portable, even once you set it up. I’m not sure how much it weighs, but I’m a 5’3″, 95lbs person, and I can lift and carry this piano with a medium amount of effort. It’s got a full keyboard, and has hundreds of different sounds effects, as well as a pretty good volume range and a jack that you can plug your headphones into if you want a little bit of privacy (although, you have to buy an adapter for your headphone jack).
With that said, the main reason I didn’t give this product a full 5 stars is that when you press the keys, it’s much more difficult to press the keys closer to the top than the bottom of the keys. This probably has something to do with how the spring mechanism for the keys were designed, and I’m not sure if this is a problem with all keyboards on electronic pianos. It has taken some getting used to and sometimes, I miss notes because of the pressure differential. Also, the keys are a little too easy to press for my taste, although some might like it. Lastly, when you turn the volume all the way up, there seems to be a little bit of distortion in the sound as if the speakers can’t handle all the noise, and it’s hard to hear individual notes. Of course, just turn the volume down to medium-high or lower, and you don’t have that problem anymore.

After taking a piano course via the internet, I am now an intermediate piano player.
This is a great piano keyboard. I use it everyday for my music practice.
I use its recording features to record my practice sessions.
I sometimes also download songs in midi format from the internet to it via a USB flash drive or cable.
I then learn to play the songs by using all the different teaching features on the keyboard.
This is my most favorite toy.

Yamaha is marketing this as a portable Grand Piano, and for those who are really looking for the grand piano experience, there are better alternatives, namely those with hammer action keys that actually feel like a piano such as the Yamaha P85 and the Casio Privia PX-130 that are at a similar price range and don’t reach the price level of the YPG-635.
This has more features that probably give it more of a synthesizer function, but this is certainly not the best option if you’re primarily looking for something that resembles the actual piano playing experience. I checked this out at Guitar Center, and the graded soft touch keys are very much your run-of-the-mill springy keys that do not feel like acoustic piano keys. I do think that if you have arthritis, this might be easier to play than a real piano or a digital piano with hammer action since synthesizers are easier to press down on.

First off I will say that this is a beautiful keyboard which looked fantastic in the room I had it in. The problem came when I started playing it. I wanted to upgrade my 61-Key Casio to the 88 key Yamaha YPG-535. My Casio sounds 20 times better than the Yamaha. The best way I can describe the difference is that when I play my Casio, the tones sound like they’re coming from the intrument. When I play the Yamaha, the tones sound like they’re coming from speakers, bad speakers at that. I bought my Yamaha YPG-535 yesterday and I’m taking it back today. I knew within 30 seconds the sound quality was nowhere near my Casio CTK-5000. I will be upgrading still but I will be upgrading to an 88 key Casio.
Updated Review: I went into Guitar Center today and played the Yamaha YPG-535 and the Casio PX-330 side by side. Complete night and day. The Casio wins out by far. I encourage you to do the same test. I truly don’t understand the good reviews for this Yamaha. I really wanted to like it because I love the look but it just doesn’t do it for me. I also don’t understand why more people don’t complain about the volume on the YPG-535. You have to have the volume on full blast to have it play at normal sound volume. The full volume level for the Yamaha is the same volume for the Casio at medium volume level. I don’t get it! Anyways, got the Casio PX-330 and I’m totally happy with it! I won’t be taking this one back!

Nice keyboard, nice sound, feels like a real piano and it’s got all the keys. I like that it includes a nice, stable music rest, keyboard stand, footswitch and power adaptor.
Lots of features too: fun sounds, (drum, maracas, bongos, etc. plus sound effects like phone, ufo, dog barking, etc)
It has a super metronome which you can adjust the tempo of, set the number of beats per measure, adjust volume, etc.
It records your performance which is nice, so my piano teacher can play something she wants me to learn, record it, then I can replay that when I’m practicing.
More features, too many to mention… If you’d like to start with something smaller or something less expensiv, I’d check out a Casio keyboard. Casio CTK4000 Premium Pack with Power Supply, Keyboard Stand and Professional Closed Cup Stereo Headphones, Casio LK100 Lighted Keyboard with Premium Accessories Package (this is the first one I got)

This piano is amazing!!! I bought this piano a couple of weeks ago, because I wanted to learn how to play. Great piano for anybody that is looking for something that is not as expensive but still holds great quality.

I originally thought of buying Kurzweil SP88 (which I’d played for 4 years before moving), but since that model doesn’t have its own speakers and stand, I bought this YPG-535 instead. And I don’t regret it!
The sound is clean, clear and solid, especially so for the middle keys. There are a lot of sounds, so you can play the second with it as well as the main. I do feel that the higher notes aren’t as good, especially for the Grand Piano sounds, but if you search through you can find a sound that plays better higher notes.
The stand is wooden and have to be assembled with screwing nuts and bolts, and once assembled it’s very sturdy. The keyboard is screwed onto the stand. It wasn’t as high as I thought it would be, but if you lower your chair it’s okay.
Overall it’s a good keyboard, esp if you are planning to use it at home. (I can’t say it’ll be as good for performance)
