I just learned how to play the guitar and I really wanted to tackle another musical instrument, so I thought of the piano. As I am on a really tight budget and have such a small space I went with this keyboard, the Yamaha YPT-220 and I’m glad that I did.

I’ve only had it for about three days but already can play a few things. It comes with a built in Y.E.S. (Yamaha Education Suite)which teaches you how to play over 100 songs. However, you may have to pause frequently because the notes are played standard, not slowed down. Now, there were some complaints about not being able to hit the lower notes, which you cannot on this keyboard. In order to do that you’ll need the 76 key keyboard. But, if you are like me and on a tight budget or have a small space then this keyboard is perfect.

I’ve been going on Youtube and seeing how to play certain songs that I like and so far all the songs I want to play, it’s been possible because there are just enough keys. Also, this keyboard DOES come with the power adapter and it does work. This keyboard is made of plastic, so don’t expect anything metal. I don’t have a problem with it being made of plastic. It doesn’t take away from the overall look of the keyboard. Please do be aware that the keys are not just like piano keys. They are close, but they are not weighted. So, be careful when pressing them. I feel that I got my money’s worth out of it and am not disappointed.

I got it for my son for Christmas and I was surprised by how good it looks and how many options/settings it has. My son was changing all the sound settings and having so much fun trying different things. It’s probably not for a professional, but if you consider this keyboard for a student – then it would be a good choice. My son loves this keyboard.

This is a good quality product with good sound and easy to use. Sound is versatile and from a distance sounds like the instrument is being duplicated. This is a great way to pass time for us old folks and could be very instructional for beginners.

I’m a beginner, and this is just what I need. I’m a “seasoned citizen” and can work the bells and whistles.

      Great value.

This is an amazing keyboard. I bought it for my niece but now even my mom is learning how to play it. The product arrived in excellent conditions and the shipping was super fast. I got it in less than 5 days from the day of the purchase.

Really good product. Amazing shipping. Excellent seller.

      1000% Happy and Satisfied.

      Pros:

      - Price

      - Light Weight for Portability

      - Fun sounds

      - Includes AC Adapter (Some keyboards don’t come with adapters so this is something that can’t be taken for granted)

      - Allows 6xAA batteries (Batteries only last a couple of days with everyday playing)

      Cons:

      - Keys are much smaller than piano keys

      - Lots of decent music require 76 keys

      Bottom Line:

This is a great inexpensive keyboard. I used it for about a month to teach myself piano, and the small-sized keys didn’t matter too much because I was still learning to read sheet music and to just play some basic songs.

But the dealbreaker for me was that even relatively easy songs like Fur Elise require 76 keys to hit the lower notes, and I realized that I had already outgrown this keyboard because of the fact that it only has 61 keys. I would imagine people might want to buy this keyboard for reasons other than to learn the piano, and that’s great, but if you are thinking of buying this to start piano practicing as a beginner, I would suggest the cheapest 76-key keyboards like the Casio WK-200 or WK-110 unless you only have a $100 budget. It gets frustrating when there is a song you want to play, and you can’t hit all the notes on that song.

Also, check out Yamaha PSR-E223. Yamaha has a strange product model naming convention so that almost every keyboard that are exactly identical have two different model numbers. You may find one is cheaper than the other, but they’re the exact same product except that the PSR-E223 most likely doesn’t come with the AC adapter out of the box.

I bought this keyboard for my grandaughter. She started playing guitar last year and was ready to try and learn how to play the keyboard. I didn’t want to spend too much and got this item for less than $100. There are plenty of features to play around with and it came with the adapter to plug it in. With only 61 keys, she will be limited in what she learns. If she shows an interest, then I will purchase a 76 or 88 key personal keyboard.
